C-252 would prohibit marketing food and beverages “that contribute to excess sugar, saturated fats, or sodium in children’s diets” in a way that targets anyone under the age of 13.
Progress
C-252 went up for its second reading vote and passed, 209 in favour and 113 against.
The Conservatives are against C-252, they argue that in other countries that have implemented programs like this there was no decrease in child obesity.
C-252 came back from committee unchanged and passed its Third Reading vote with the same vote split, Conservatives against and everyone else in favour. It will now be sent to the Senate.
