S-270 – the Horse Protection Act – makes it illegal to export live horses and other equines for slaughter.

The changes here are simple enough. This is where it’s declared illegal to export horses for slaughter. S-270 also declares that it counts as exporting for slaughter if you know or should reasonably know that’s what’s going to happen. You also can’t export horses to have them fattened for slaughter.

S-270 is currently working its way through the Senate. If it passes it will be sent to the House.
