C-286 – The Recognition of Foreign Credentials Act – makes it easier to have the educational and work experience of immigrants be recognized in Canada.

This Act changes the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to allow the Governor General to make regulations on what type of foreign education or credentials can be used in place of Canadian credentials.  The Minister of Employment and Social Development will be in charge of making recommendations for these regulations, and will need to consult the Minister of Labour as well as the provinces before making these recommendations.

The general idea here is that it’ll be easier for immigrants to know if their credentials will be recognized and for them to get jobs that require specific education, licensing, etc.

Progress of C-286

C-286 is currently outside of the Order of Precedence.
