C-272 – The Employing Persons with Disabilities Act – creates a national strategy to increase the employment of people with disabilities.

The strategy will be developed by the Minister of Employment and Social Development with the consultation of their provincial counterparts.  The strategy will include measures to:

  • Educate employers about the potential of people with disabilities to contribute to the workforce
  • Correct workplace misconceptions about people with disabilities
  • Encourage employers to adopt inclusive hiring processes
  • Promote the Opportunities Fund for People with Disabilities

Reports

Within two years of this Act passing the Minister will need to report back to the House with the finished strategy.  Every five years after that the Minister will need to report on the progress and effectiveness of the strategy.
