What is this?
Following my belief that we should be holding our politicians accountable for their current actions and not their future promises I’ve created this vote compass to help choose who to vote for based on what each party has been actively working on. Here’s how it works:
Throughout this site you’ll find these:

When you find one of these you can choose if you support or oppose the topic associated with them. Just click the little box beside either to mark your opinion! When you do every party that agrees with you will earn a point, and every party that disagrees will lose a point. Come back here to see each party’s score and to get an idea of how well each party’s policy matches your views!
Now there’s an important point I want to make here. This is not a social media thing. The scores are not shared between everyone. The scores you see are based entirely on your own opinion, there’s no way for anyone else to see what you support and oppose, nor is there a way for anyone else to see what scores each party has for you. This tool is entirely for personal use.
Scoring
So here’s how scores are calculated.
First, you choose whether you support or oppose a piece of legislation. Parties then earn points if they agree with you or lose points if they disagree with you. Creating a piece of legislation is worth 1 point for the party that created it. Each time a party votes on a piece of legislation they stand to lose or gain another point. This means that legislation that makes it through the entire legislative process is worth more points than a piece of legislation that never gets voted on. If there’s an amendment or something that I feel substantially changes the legislation or if a piece is legislation is particularly large I may have multiple opinion trackers to keep things more reliable. (I’m looking at you omnibus legislation!)
