Hello everyone! Here’s what’s changed over the last week!

Motions

Sameer Zuberi, Liberal MP, Pierrefonds—Dollard, Quebec

Sameer Zuberi proposed M-62, which would aims to help Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims fleeing China. It would see an additional 10,000 refugees from these groups brought into the country between 2024 and 2026, and gives 100 sitting days to come up with a plan on how to do this.

Jenny Kwan (NDP, BC, Vancouver East) proposed an amendment that would include a clause to make sure these refugees are in addition to our normal refugee stream, and increase the time to come up with a plan to 120 days.

Both the amendment and the motion were put to vote and passed with everyone in favour.

Bills

Bill C-35 – Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act – was the main topic of debate over the week, and passed its second reading with everyone in support. It will now go to committee!

Bill C-22 – Canada Disability Benefit Act – went up for its third reading and passed with everyone in favour. It will now go to the Senate.

And that’s that for the week!
