C-295 – An Act to amend the Criminal Code (neglect of vulnerable adults) – makes it an offence for long-term care facilities, their owners, and their managers to fail to provide adequate care to their residents. This is punishable with up to 5 years in prison.
It also allows courts to prohibit anyone found guilty of this from having a position of authority or trust towards vulnerable adults for any amount of time the courts decide necessary. Breaking the prohibition is punishable with up to two years of prison.
C-295 went up for its Second Reading vote on March 8th and passed with everyone in favour.
