C-222 – the Relieving Grieving Parents of an Administrative Burden Act (Evan’s Law) – allows new parents to continue collecting benefits in the event of their child dying.
Not a lot to say here, Terry wants to make life a bit easier for new parents in the event that their child dies. C-222 changes the Employment Insurance Act to make it so any new parent collecting an EI benefit for a new child can continue collecting it if the child dies. The Canada Labour Code is also changed so anyone on parental leave can continue their leave if this happens. Both of these apply to both newborn children and adopted children. Main objective here is remove the need for these parents to deal with the paperwork of cancelling these benefits on top of having to go through the death of a child.
Progress of C-222
C-222 is currently waiting for its Second Reading vote.
