C-346 – An Act to amend the Canada Shipping Act (certificate of competency) – makes it faster for foreign students that take maritime courses in Canada to get certified to work in Canada.
Currently only Canadians and permanent residents can be certified to work on ships in Canada. C-346 changes it so a foreign national with a diploma from a Canadian maritime course who has applied for permanent residency can also get certified.
