C-320 – An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (disclosure of information to victims) – makes it so courts are required to explain to the victims of crimes how they determined the dates for things like reviews, parole, and release.

Corrections and Conditional Release Act

Pretty short change here. Currently the Corrections and Conditional Release Act says that courts must inform the victims of crimes of the date that the offender will be granted things like a temporary absence, release, or parole. C-320 makes it so the courts also need to explain the reason the date was chosen.

Progress

On Oct 18, 2023 C-320 went up for its Second Reading and passed with everyone voting in favour. It then came back from the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security unchanged, and passed its Third Reading with everyone voting in favour. It will now be seen by the Senate.
