Lots happened yesterday with a pair of government Bills being introduced as well as a pair of older Bills being discussed New Bills We have a pair of related Bills that came up, the first of which is C-30 – Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 1 (Targeted Tax Relief). This Bill would increase the GST/HST rebate for 2022-2023, giving everyone about 50% more for the tax year than they would normally get. Original Bill here Bill C-242 does a few things relating to extended temporary resident visas used to visit children or grandchildren that are Canadian citizens or permanent residents. First, if someone applying for a TRV is staying for an extended period of time it will allow them to use a health insurance policy purchased from an insurance company outside of Canada to meet the requirement that they have private health insurance.
