C-233 – An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Judges Act (violence against an intimate partner) – makes a small change to the Criminal Code and the Judges Act. These changes are meant to protect intimate partners that someone has committed an act of violence towards.
Bill S-223 – An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (trafficking in human organs) – is set to fight “transplant tourism”. It adds a definition for organ trafficking to the Criminal Code, makes it possible to charge citizens involved in organ trafficking outside of the country, and allows us to block entry to non-citizens that are involved.
This is a very long Bill with a fairly simple premise: Update the criminal justice system to line up with what we learned from the COVID pandemic, mostly in terms of allowing for more remote options in the process and lessening the requirements for people to be physically present. These changes should also help reduce the delays in the system.
Bill S-206 would allow jurors to share information regarding the proceedings of the jury while not in the courtroom (ie deliberations) with a professional providing medical or psychiatric treatment as long as the treatment is needed for health issues that were caused by the jury duty.
