C-252 – Child Health Protection Act

C-252 would prohibit marketing food and beverages “that contribute to excess sugar, saturated fats, or sodium in children’s diets” in a way that targets anyone under the age of 13.

Bill C-29 – National Council for Reconciliation Act

C-29 would create the Council for Reconciliation. This council is an independent, non-political organization which will have at least two-thirds of its members from Indigenous backgrounds. Its purpose will be to report on the progress towards reconciliation between Canadian governments and Indigenous groups, and to make recommendations on what could be done to advance reconciliation.

Bill C-31 – Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 2 (Targeted Support for Households)

C-31 does three things.

First, it establishes the Dental Benefit Act which will provide financial support for parents for dental services received by their children under the age of 12, between October 2022 and June 2024.

Second, it creates the Rental Housing Benefit Act which will provide a one-time payment to eligible people who paid rent in 2022.

Third, it makes changes to the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, and Excise Act related to the previous two points.

Bill C-22 – Canada Disability Benefit Act

Original Bill here Bill C-22 would create the Canada Disability Benefit. There isn’t a lot of details yet, the regulations involving this benefit are to be created at a future date by an Order in Council. It does call out “work disincentives such as the loss of income and other benefits as a result of becoming employed” as being a problem for people with disabilities, so it probably won’t be something subject to clawbacks from having employment income. It also explicitly states that these payments aren’t subject to any law regarding bankruptcy, cannot be given as security, cannot be retained...
