Hello everyone! Fair bit of action today on Bills 2 and 7 as the debate on the Time Allocation Motion began!

First up quick refresher on what’s happened so far. Andrea Khanjin (PC, Barrie–Innisfil) moved that the next time Bill 2 – Plan to Build Act, and Bill 7 – More Beds, Better Care Act come up for debate they must get their second reading vote done the same day, skip the committee phase, and go straight to their third reading vote. This would completely bypass any public hearings where stakeholders (such as hospitals and LTC home operators in the case of Bill 7) would be able to present their case for/against the Bill and make any recommendations about how to improve it.

Michael Mantha (NDP, Algoma–Manitoulin) countered with a Motion that would instead have those Bills sent to their relevant committees.

That brings us to yesterday’s update, where Michael Mantha’s Motion was defeated with the PC party voting against and the other parties voting for. Andrea Khanjin’s Motion was then passed, with the PCs in favour and the other parties against.

Both Bill 2 and 7 then completed their second readings and will be up for their second and final votes (probably today).

And that’s it for today! See you all tomorrow where we see how things finish with these two Bills!
