C-328 – The Student Debt Relief Act – would have the Minister of Employment and Social Development create a national strategy for reducing student debt.
The strategy would be built with consultations with members of provincial governments in charge of education and would assess:
- Canceling debt from government provided student loans
- Permanently removing interest from government provided student loans
- Increasing non-repayable student grants
- Reducing the cost of post-secondary education
The Minister will have one year to develop the strategy, and a review of its progress and effectiveness would happen three years after that.
Status
C-328 is currently waiting to go up for a Second Reading vote.
