| This post is about a previous Session of Parliament. Any legislation here that did not receive Royal Assent has been terminated. |
C-303 – An Act to amend the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act – restricts the government’s ability to direct the RCMP’s operations.
First up, the government won’t be allowed to give instructions to the RCMP regarding:
- Day-to-day operations
- The handling of a specific case, including investigations and prosecution of that case
- Anything that would interfere with the RCMP Commissioner’s ability to manage the Force
Second, if the government issues any directions to the RCMP it must be done in writing, and a copy must be presented to the House and published for the public.
C-303 is currently outside of the Order of Precedence.
