C-205 – An Act to amend the National Housing Strategy Act – makes changes to the National Housing Strategy to make sure Indigenous and homeless communities are involved in the Strategy.
The changes involving Indigenous groups is simple enough, they’re just added to any lists of groups that need to be consulted about the Strategy. There’s also a note that any part of the National Housing Strategy that would affect Indigenous groups needs to be culturally appropriate.
Likewise homeless people and advocates would be involved in any part of the Strategy that would affect them. C-205 also makes it so a homeless encampment on federal land can’t be cleared, and the government must instead find alternatives for the people living there.
Progress of C-205
C-205 is currently outside of the Order of Precedence.
