Bill 17 would make the week beginning the first Sunday in October Abuse Prevention Week, and aims to help protect children from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse
The first part of this Bill requires the Minister of Education to establish an Abuse Prevention Framework Advisory Committee consisting of experts in abuse prevention and stakeholders in the education sector. This committee will create a framework for training educators on issues related to abuse, and changes to the school curriculum guidelines regarding abuse prevention.
During Abuse Prevention Week elementary and secondary schools will be required to teach the curriculum created by the committee with the goal of educating children on how to recognize abuse and what to do about it.
