Good evening! Busy day yesterday with some new Bills put on the table and some votes on Bills 2 and 7!
First up we have the second reading vote on Bill 2 – Plan to Build Act. The vote passed with the PCs voting in favour and everyone else voting against. As per the motion that has just passed, it will skip the committee phase and go straight to its third reading vote.
We then had the second reading vote on Bill 7 – More Beds, Better Care Act. This is the Bill that would allow hospital patients to be admitted to an LTC home without their consent. The vote passed with the PCs voting in favour and everyone else voting against. As with Bill 2, this will now skip the committee phase and go straight to its final vote.
The NDP introduced several new Bills, starting with Bill 14 – No Time to Waste Act (Plan for Climate Action and Jobs). This Bill is all about addressing climate change. It involves preparing our healthcare system for the increase in medical issues caused by climate change (such as people suffering from extreme temperatures, air quality, etc), reducing emissions caused by the public sector, and setting up a committee dedicated to looking into societal, environmental, and economic challenges the province faces caused by climate change.
Next up is Bill 15 – Fairness for Road Users Act (Contraventions Causing Death or Serious Bodily Harm). This Bill would increase the penalties for anyone who causes an accident while in violation of the Highway Traffic Act, resulting in some potentially hefty fines, jail time, and/or suspension of licence.
Then we have Bill 16 – Racial Equity in the Education System Act. This Bill is all about promoting anti-racism education of staff in the education system to help reduce instances of racist language or activities.
And finally we have Bill 17 – Abuse Prevention Week Act. Bill 17 would promote educating children on recognizing abuse and what they can do about it.
And that’s all for the day! See you all tomorrow!
