C-358 – An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act (carbon pollution pricing) – removes the GST applied to the Carbon Tax.
This sounds pretty simple, but it’s a little more complicated than that. GST is not directly applied to the federal carbon tax, the concern is that the carbon tax is passed on to the public by increasing the price of goods, which are then taxed as well. C-358 fixes this by making any products or services that are affected by either the federal carbon tax or a provincial alternative GST-exempt.
