C-398 – An Act to amend the National Housing Strategy Act – changes the National Housing Strategy to prevent the removal of homeless encampments on federal land and make sure Indigenous communities are consulted on housing initiatives.
These two changes are pretty simple. The note on removing homeless encampments requires that an alternate arrangement is found first with consultations with the people living in the encampment. We’ll need to have a place for them to go that they’ll want to go before we can remove the camp.
The other change just makes sure Indigenous communities are listed as needing to be involved in consultations for any housing initiatives that would impact them.
