C-221 – An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (disclosure of information to victims) – gives more information to victims of crimes when an offender is given a temporary absence, release, or parole.

The Conservatives proposed this last session (C-320) but it didn’t get through the Senate before the election. The previous sponsor is no longer an MP so Mel has taken over. Nothing has changed, C-221 still just requires courts to explain the reasoning behind the chosen date for the temporary absence, release, or parole.

Progress of C-221

C-221 is currently going through its second reading. As the previous version got through the House with full support and no changes odds are this isn’t going to see any opposition either.
